Life on the Deckle Edge

Dive into Poetry with Rebecca Kai Dotlich!

OK, it might not seem like the season at the moment to wade, splash, or dive into anything. . . . BUT – before you know it, we’ll be rounding winter and spring and facing summer. And what could be more perfect for a summer retreat than a long weekend exploring poetry for children with celebrated poet and award-winning author Rebecca Kai Dotlich?!

It’s my pleasure to coordinate a special poetry workshop/retreat for SCBWI Southern Breeze, limited to 22 paid attendees, June 10-12 at the Center for New Beginnings in Dahlonega, Ga.

The hills might be brown now, and the trees bare – but in June the mountains will be lush and green and full of life. In those peaceful surroundings, we’ll explore all things poetry led by Rebecca. I’ve benefitted from Rebecca’s teaching before, most recently at a Highlights Founders workshop in Pennsylvania.

Renowned poet and anthologist Lee Bennett Hopkins says: "Rebecca is among the best poets writing for children today. She is a poet who creates poems causing readers to get goose bumps. Her pen is blessed with magic."

Interested? Intrigued? Called? Online registration is NOW OPEN through the Southern Breeze website. Read more on p. 7 of the current newsletter and click here to register online. First-come, first-served, so dive in!

And be sure to catch Kathi Appelt’s recent video interview with Rebecca on Kathi’s blog (click here) – you’ll get a sense of how approachable, articulate and passionate Rebecca is about creating and sharing poetry for young people.
