Life on the Deckle Edge

Thankful

Mostly, I'm thankful that I have the "usuals" to be thankful for, but not taken for granted - a wonderful family, health, home, food, shelter, work, freedom. I'm thankful to have grown up in a family that, while full of challenges, encouraged creativity and time spent together.

I'm thankful for friends who still make the effort to interrupt their own busy lives with a hello and how are you. I'm thankful for the caprice of cats, the devotion of dogs, the wonder of wolves.

I'm thankful for every parent and teacher who takes the time to read to a child, who really looks at their artwork and posts it on the wall or fridge, who lets them play in puddles. Same for those who do the equivalent with teenagers.

And I'm really thankful for books and stories - for those who dream them up, make them, publish them, sell them, circulate them, and share them.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
