This weekend I'm participating in the Great Backyard Bird Count - http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/ . I thought my skills would be pretty good in this area, since I've watched and conversed with birds my whole life.
But actually accurately documenting which ones and how many in a certain time period? Wait - was that a sparrow or finch? What just flew overhead? Come back! What kind of woodpecker is that? And which song is that; could you sing it again?
Hmmm.... Well, you only have to record the ones you recognize, and every little bit helps. Even if you're not counting birds yourself this weekend, the website has a wealth of wonderful information, including links to photos and calls. Tweet Dreams!
