Life on the Deckle Edge

Read-a-thon for literacy this weekend!

I'm delighted to be participating in the second annual READ-A-THON at the Hall Book Exchange (Gainesville, Ga.) this coming weekend. Beginning 5pm Friday, October 23, and ending 5pm Saturday, October 24, the event benefits the Gainesville/Hall County Alliance for Literacy, (www.allianceforliteracy.org). Participants of all ages will be reading books of all kinds! Bookshop owner Myra Meade promises plenty of free coffee....

I'll be kicking off "Children's Bedtime Stories" at 7 p.m. on Friday, the 23rd, reading SIR MIKE and sharing a wolf tale or two as well. It's a privilege to support this cause - the Alliance has helped more than 41,000 people learn to read since 1995. I had an uncle who could not read because of some physical and cognitive challenges. He amazed me with how he made his way through a challenging life. Blessings to those who are learning to read at any age, and to those teaching them.

If you're in the Gainesville area, come support this great event! For more information or to learn how you can help, call 770-532-6693. Hope to see you there!
